The Real Reason Putin supports Assad (Financial Times). Basically says Putin views the Syrian opposition as Sunni jihadists who must be stopped like the secessionists in Chechnya. Putin's domino theory.

Time magazine's harrowing account of tension between rival rebel groups, in this instance between the Farouq Brigade and Jabhat al Nusra.

From an AFP article cited at The Syrian Days of Rage - English about Assadite media complaining about free Syria being granted a seat at the Arab League.

The Arab League summit opening Tuesday in Doha "will take place under Qatari supervision with the main goal to finish off Syria. They forget... that the Arabs, without Syria, would not be real Arabs," the [al Thawra] paper said.

How Islamist Rebels in Syria Are Ruling a Fallen Provincial Capital

. Fascinating account from Time magazine about how Raqqa is now doing after being liberated from Assad and his murderers.
Raqqa city was once dubbed the “hotel of the revolution” because it became home to hundreds of thousands of people displaced from fighting elsewhere who sought refuge in a place considered firmly in the grip of Syrian President Bashar Assad. Earlier this month, however, the city in north central Syria, which was late to the antigovernment revolt, became known for something else: it is the first and only provincial capital that Assad’s regime has completely lost — with the rebels taking control of it within the span of a week.
(WARNING! Link contains graphic content.) Agony in Aleppo. Heart breaking 15 minute news segment broadcast in Britain about the situation in Syria. Features a 12 year old boy who looks after patients in a makeshift hospital who works from 8am till 10 or 11 pm. Shows men retrieving bodies of men summarily executed by Assad's murderers from the river, including that of a ten year old boy. (How terrible that Assad's men are murdering even ten year old boys!?) It also shows how Jabhat al Nusra gains influence and prestige among the population by providing food to the poor, and shows how snipers battle each other from the rooftops of Aleppo. There's also an 11 year old boy presented in the film who also helps out in the hospital. He dies at the end.
